How to Reconstitute Peptides with Bacteriostatic Water
Reconstitution is simple when you know the steps. This guide covers the complete process — from cracking a vial to confirming the right concentration — with the math shown clearly at every stage.

What You’ll Need
Gather everything before you start. Working mid-process with contaminated hands is how errors happen.
- 1
Bacteriostatic water — 0.9% benzyl alcohol preserved. Do not substitute sterile water for multi-dose use.
- 2
Insulin syringe (1 mL) — small-gauge needle (28–31G). Gives precise control on small volumes.
- 3
Alcohol swabs — sterilize the vial septa before any needle passes through.
- 4
The peptide vial — lyophilized powder, sealed with a rubber septum.
The Reconstitution Process
- 1
Swab both septa with an alcohol swab and air-dry 15 seconds. Don’t touch the sterilized area.
- 2
Draw your bac water volume into the syringe. The amount determines concentration — see the table below.
- 3
Inject down the side of the vial — angle the needle so the stream runs along the glass wall, not directly onto the powder.
- 4
Swirl gently, do not shake. Should dissolve within 60 seconds. If not, refrigerate 10 minutes and retry.
- 5
Inspect the solution. Clear and colorless is good. Cloudiness, particulates, or color means discard.
Concentration Math
How much water you add determines how concentrated the solution is. This is where most errors happen.
| Peptide | Water Added | Concentration | Per 100 mcg |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 mg | 1 mL | 5,000 mcg/mL | 0.02 mL (2 units) |
| 5 mg | 2 mL | 2,500 mcg/mL | 0.04 mL (4 units) |
| 5 mg | 5 mL | 1,000 mcg/mL | 0.10 mL (10 units) |
| 10 mg | 2 mL | 5,000 mcg/mL | 0.02 mL (2 units) |
| 10 mg | 10 mL | 1,000 mcg/mL | 0.10 mL (10 units) |
2 mL per 5 mg vial = 2,500 mcg/mL. Every 10 units on a 1 mL syringe equals 250 mcg. Most researchers prefer this for easy mental math.
Storage After Reconstitution
Refrigerate immediately at 2–8°C (36–46°F). Do not freeze. Benzyl alcohol provides multi-dose preservation for 28–30 days under proper refrigeration. Label the vial with the reconstitution date and discard after 30 days regardless of appearance.
